as stars in the night and crops in famine

Joseph may have had known God's consolation and comfort in his lonely nights as he had lost his mother. Perhaps his dreams were of a missing affection. He suffered rejection and jealousy, he was sold, he was jailed. He did not turn bitter, but became a provider of good things. "God sent me before you to preserve your lives, he said.

If we justify our bitterness how are we to carry out the mission of Jesus to preach the good news and heal the sick? There may be reasons to hold grudge and be angry. The Christian living must take us to such a process of being providers of good things, not people of bitterness and hostility. In our darkness, let us dream of grace as stars in the night and crops in famine; not for us to be the centre, but to preserve the lives of many.
